If you’re short on space, such as in a condominium or townhome, creating a multi-purpose room can help you make the most of every square foot. Finding clever solutions will give you the chance to use a room for multiple functions without having to do lots of demolition or construction. Find some creative solutions below with our Myrtle Beach experts.

Consider Function
Before you knock out any walls or try to furnish your space, consider functionality. Make sure you set clear goals for what you want the space to be. This will guide you in the planning process of items you need to buy and how to make it fit your needs.
Look for Multi-Purpose Furniture
A multi-functional space will require multi-purpose furniture. If you want a guest bedroom to also be a home office when guests aren’t’ in town, a home office with a Murphy bed is the perfect solution. The bed is there when you need it, but during the rest of the year, it’s your home office.
Murphy beds are a great way to make use of any floor space during the day, as a room can turn into a retreat at night. It can even be used to create a craft room or playroom. Just use built-in shelves and drawers to keep craft supplies or toys and games, and then at night, it becomes another room for the grandkids to sleep!
Consider Dividing It
You may not need to bring in dry wall, but creating some sort of physical distance could be helpful when creating a multi-functional space. Consider putting a desk on one side of a room, with a bed on the other. This creates clear zones and keeps working and relaxing areas separated. This is often a logical solution and is very common in shared spaces.
Using curtains or different wall colors or flooring is a smart and fun way to visually divide your space. Some people may even use storage cubbies or a bookshelf as a room divider in a studio apartment or den.
Look to Alcoves and Corners
Using a reach-in closet, alcove, or corner is a great way to squeeze in extra storage and functionality. Creating desk space in a closet with custom shelves or using special corner units for a desk and TV is a great way to make the most of a small space.
