Traditional custom closet design island Myrtle Beach, SCWe have worked on hundreds of closet projects since we started serving the Myrtle Beach area in 2006. And traditional décor styles are just one of the many that we cater to at More Space Place. See how you can incorporate traditional decor into your custom closet by reading on.

Key Characteristics of Traditional Design

Before we dive into it, let’s check off some of the hallmarks of traditional décor styles.

  • Inviting and familiar
  • Simple and symmetrical
  • Classic, comfortable, and calm

Don’t Go Too Fussy

Many people gravitate towards traditional designs because it is a classic, suits many different tastes, and is comfortable and unfussy. Bring this to your closet by choosing a functional space that has plenty of storage for every single piece of your wardrobe. Also look to drawer and cabinet fronts in unassuming styles such as a shaker cabinet style. Your closet should first and foremost be able to keep clutter at bay. A hodgepodge of items on display is usually not the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to this style.

Go With Warm Undertones

Many closets in a traditional style opt for natural wood grains. You can also choose other mid-tones that work with your floor and wall colors. White is another popular choice for a seamless look. However, overly dark and bright colors are usually not chosen as they can be a bit jarring.

Choose Hardware & Textures Carefully

We usually don’t see bold colors or anything too shiny with traditional designs. Although glazed glass and touches of glass can be used, they should be used sparingly. Choose matte or satin finishes when building your closet.

Don’t forget to evaluate smaller design touches like lighting and hardware. When it comes to hardware, avoiding overly-shiny items like chrome work best. Oil-rubbed bronze finishes add a warm and inviting look. Matte hardware pieces in simple styles are another popular option.

Get A Built-In Look

Traditional designs tend to favor quality and a built-in look. You can achieve this by adding finishing elements such as a toe kick, decorative molding, or beadboard. We often incorporate beadboard into the panels and fronts of our units for added texture, and it can help add a nautical flair.
