The world of custom closets can be difficult to navigate. From understanding the terminology to different company policies, it can be difficult to select the right company to work with.
At More Space Place in Myrtle Beach, we’re all about being transparent. We’re here to set the record straight about frequently-confused custom closet terms and help you choose the right vendor.
Introduction & Terminology
What does custom actually mean?
Custom closets are made up of shelves, drawers, cabinets, etc. that are custom measured and cut for each job. This means that they aren’t pre-cut to a specific size and used in a one-size-fits-all model. Custom closets can be built and manufactured for closets in all shapes and sizes but are usually chosen when a closet is oddly-sized and existing shelving units are unattractive and result in wasted space.
What about pre-fabricated and pre-built?
Our closet systems are custom measured and cut in our Clearwater factory, then sent to us to install the units on-site; nothing is boxed up in bulk like IKEA furniture. Pre-built and pre-fabricated systems are often designed and installed by a customer, not by trained individuals. Furthermore, we take the legwork out of the design process and maximize your space.
Choosing a Vendor
There are three main factors to consider when evaluating a closet company – project timeline, budget and quality, and personality fit and trustworthiness. Let’s break it down so you know what to look for.
Timeline
Different companies will have different timelines depending on the scope of your project and how they create their products. Typically, closet projects can take up to 8 weeks, although exceptions can be made. Some companies may even have overstock and clearance available in their showroom. Our designers will be upfront with you and try their best to work with you and your schedule.
Budget & Quality
Choosing the right closet company will also be based on your budget and the product you’re looking to create. The company you work with should be able to provide a quote in writing and tell you exactly what you will be paying for. We work with all kinds of budgets and price points to create a closet that you love. In fact, many of our customers usually tell us that we offer better service and price points than pre-built systems at the big box stores!
Personality Fit & Trustworthiness
Being able to trust your designer and installer is a big reason to choose a local professional. Gauge trustworthiness and experience when meeting with each company. At More Space Place, we invite you to ask questions about our experience and the team you’ll be working with. We know that it can take time to build a relationship and we’ll work to put you at ease.
