Maximizing space with a custom closet and home office built-in
Custom Closet
This guest room/ office closet was fitted with a brand new wall-hung closet system to maximize space. To make the most of the space, a set of shelves were installed along the back corner. This created effective storage in a small area. It’s the perfect place for photo albums and other memorabilia that our clients didn’t want to display day-to-day. A light helps illuminate the space and make items visible.
For the main closet storage area, a slim set of drawers, cubbies, and tall hanging rods were added. This is a great place for overflow or seasonal item. In the upper left, to support the hanging rod without limiting space, a precisely cut curved support bracket was used. This creates another hanging area without cutting off access to the shelves.
Office and Bookshelf
Our clients are big on books and were looking to house their collection while also creating a comfortable home office. There are upper and lower shelves and a generous bookcase to house books of all sizes and types.
The central desk area uses the same durable furniture-grade laminate as the closet. A small cutout towards the back of the desk makes it easy to run cords to the floor for a clutter-free tabletop. Multiple drawers in different heights provide plenty of storage space for files, office supplies, and other miscellaneous items.
We were so excited to show off the installed desk area, that some items were still finding their new homes when we captured the photo above. We always speak with our clients throughout a project to check-in and ensure that they are thrilled with our service and product.
Finish, Color & Design Add-Ons
The finish of the components and units in this guest room is our new premier line of laminates in Summertime Blues. It was a conscious decision to keep all visible built-in units a unified color and texture. The shelf towards the back of the closest is the only exception.
Coordinating hardware was also used in the office and closet area to unify the space. Simple angular hardware in black is a perfect mix of contemporary and traditional.
Additional finishing elements like baseboard, molding, and built-in lighting were crafted into the design to create a full built-in look. Under-shelving lighting adds an additional light source when working in this office guest room.
